Give Me More Goals - Odewingie To Victor Moses

<p dir="ltr">The injured forward has tasked his teammate to get more goals for the Potters after shrugging off his injury slow down</p>
<p dir="ltr">Nigeria international and Stoke City striker Peter Odemwingie has demanded more goals from teammate. Victor Moses who made a return to the pitch after his injury setbacks. Moses has netted once in 13 appearances for the Potters since his loan move from Chelsea but Odemwingie feels that isn't enough for a player of his calibre.</p>
<p dir="ltr">"I'm delighted he's back because he's been instrumental in getting away points for us," <br>
Odemwingie told Stokesentinel.</p>
<p dir="ltr">"I just want more goals, personally. I told him that his crossing is good, but I want goals, <br>
however he does it, because he can score more."</p>
<p dir="ltr">Odemwingie, who still hopes to feature before the end of the season after a cruciate knee ligament injury,admits to being frustrated at not being able to link up with this season's newcomers such as Moses and Bojan.</p>
<p dir="ltr">But he is delighted to see Bojan scoring and everyone taking him to their heart. "It is very helpful to settle in when you score, the manager speaks well about you and the players want you in every game," he continued.</p>
<p dir="ltr">"I felt that way myself and so I can relate to him for that and I hope he continues doing well. "He is very hard working and even today he was in running by himself. He's added a few kilos of muscle and so he's also putting in the hours in the gym and we will all benefit from that.<br>
"I would love to play with him, but I will have to wait a bit until it comes, “ he concluded.</p>

AFCON 2015 Boring Without Super Eagles - Siasai

The Chief Coach of the U-23 Eagles, Samson Siasia, has lamented the absence of the Super Eagles at the ongoing Equatorial Guinea 2015 Africa Nations Cup has made the<br />
tournament boring to him and many other Nigerians.<br />
<br />
When questioned at the secretariat of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the World Cup Coach, maintained that the absence of the Super Eagles killed the interest of many Nigerians in the tournament, noting that many Nigerians don’t even know that AFCON had resumed.<br />
“Honestly, I feel that there is no Nations Cup in the first place. It is even obvious because most Nigerians are not even watching it. The absence of the Super Eagles has killed the interest of many Nigerians from the tournament.<br />
<br />
“Honestly, it has been boring without the Super Eagles participating,” he lamented.<br />
<br />
The former Super Eagles chief coach also spoke on the traveling arrangements for the Dream Team’s forthcoming training tour to Tunisia, saying: “We are going to leave the country on Thursday to Tunisia for the double-header match on January 24 and 28. We will return to Nigeria on January 29 and hope we can get sponsor or if the National Sports Commission will sponsor us to Turkey to play more quality friendly games ahead of the qualifier game against Gabon.”<br />

On the possibility of dividing his team for the Tunisia friendly and the Super Six in Abuja, Siasia said: “We are seriously working on dividing the team into two to help us participate in<br />
both. We want to make sure that the right players are in the right position.”<br />
“We will make sure that we disabuse from the minds of the players the issue of superior or inferior into the division of the players. They all know that we have not gotten the regular<br />
first team players and they all know that we are still working on how to build a team,” he noted.<br />

While siting late resumption of camping as one of the biggest challenges facing him, the Nigeria former international however noted that he does not want to dwell on negatives,<br />
stressing that he is rather concentrate on things that will make the team move forward.<br />
“I don’t really want to talk about challenges now. What would<br />
have been the challenge was the late resumption of our camping. We did not just come back on time but now that we are back, I don’t want to talk about negative things. We are<br />
going to do the best we can to make the team better,” he<br />

Super Easgles Now Spectators As AFCON 2015 Begins

The African continent’s biggest show, the Nations Cup Kicks off in grand style today in Bata, with the defending champions, the Super Eagles absent and watching as spectators as Equatorial Guinea confront Congo in the opening match at the Estadio de bata.<br />

In its 30th edition, this year’s AFCON has comen with a lot of drama, even before the first ball is kicked. The major shock is that the match will be played without the defending champions, Nigeria, who failed to qualify for the 16-team competition.<br />
<br />
<br />
But like they say, with or without its defending champions, the show must go on and that is<br />
<br />
what is about to play out today as Africa stands still for the kickoff of three weeks of fun-filled soccer action from the motherland.<br />
<br />
<br />
Nigeria’s failure to defend their title did not come to many as a surprise as they lacked the bite, drive and dynamism during the qualifying games.<br />
<br />
<br />
In hindsight, Eagles were the albatross of their doom, as they started their campaign like a house on fire against Congo and never really recovered from their drowsiness, missing out on a place at the competition.<br />
<br />
<br />
The tournament was initially scheduled to be hosted by Morocco, who last hosted it in 1988, where the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon defeated the Super Eagles in the final, but<br />
<br />
Morocco refused to host the tournament at the scheduled dates because of the Ebola virus<br />
<br />
epidemic in West Africa.<br />
<br />
<br />
With time running out and CAF seemingly short of options, Equatorial Guinea, which co-hosted the 2012 edition with Gabon, was later named as the host country, as the Issa Hayatou-led executive committee of CAF pulled the chestnut out of the fire, to maintain the status quo of organizing the AFCON between January and February of every odd year.<br />

While the Eagles will be watching the action from the field as spectators, the 16 qualified teams will be involved in an intense soccer rivalry to determine who succeeds Nigeria as African champions on February 8.<br />
<br />
<br />
In Nigeria, the Nations Cup fever is absent as fans still sulk over their darling team’s failed bid to qualify. Unlike the vibes that were generated two years back when the Eagles were preparing for South Africa 2013, the scene this time around is dull as sombre as a nation is yet to come to terms with the reality that they will be watching the tournament as spectators.<br />

Group C, aptly tagged the ‘death zone’ provides for the most intense and riveting soccer battlesnas the quartet of Ghana, Senegal, South Africa and Algeria go in search for the available two tickets to the quarterfinal stage of the tournament.<br />

Algeria, on the strength of latest FIFA rankings,are Africa’s top-ranked team and were so<br />

dominant in the qualifying matches for this year’snAFCON. But all that lofty record will count for nothing when push comes to shove on Monday when they square-off against a vastly improved Bafana Bafana side, who stopped Nigeria fromdefending their title.<br />

In the other match billed for Monday at the Estadio de Mongomo, Ghana go up against<br />

Jonathan’s Campaign Team Inauguration Postponed Over Sister’s Death

The special adviser to the president on political matters, Rufai Alkali, announced the postponement at Legacy House, the PDP presidential campaign office and venue of the inauguration.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
Alkali said that the inauguration was postponed following the death of President Jonathan’s younger sister, Nancy Jonathan-Olei, on Sunday.</div>

Members of the organisation and guests had already seated at the venue awaiting the president’s arrival<br />
before the announcement.</div>

<p dir="ltr">Nigerias John Mikel  Obi  Of Chelsea FC has been named the English Premier League’s African Player of the Month of December.</p>
<p dir="ltr">In a statement by the organisers New African Soccer, Mikel was voted and selected ahead of West Ham’s<br>
Cameroonian Alex Song and Southampton striker, Senegalese Sadio Mane in a tight vote process.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Awards Director ‘Tunde Adelakun said “as always, it was a difficult choice, but a lot of factors came into<br>
consideration before we selected Mikel”.</p>
<p dir="ltr">“Mikel has endured a difficult start to the season, falling down the pecking order in a star-studded Chelsea team that is riding high in the Premier League. After all, we all know that no one likes changing a winning team. </p>
<p dir="ltr">However, the spirit of professionalism which he displayed in waiting for his chance, and taking it well with some solid performances in a difficult month, tipped the award his way this month” Adelakun said.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Commending the performances of Alex Song and Sadio Mane, the statement said “Mane has settled into his<br>
role in the Premier League as if he has always been here. The way he took his goals against Crystal Palace<br>
and the might of Chelsea proves that the Senegalese will be a force in this League for some time to come.</p>
<p dir="ltr">And as for Song, he is just solid as ever; and if he was not rested in some of the games over the festive period, he would have made the decision even harder for us”.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Adelakun commended the level of the African performance in the English Premier League this season so<br>
far, stating that “the Africans have been a real credit to the continent, and when we watch them in the<br>
League, it is with pride’.</p>
<p dir="ltr">The presentation of MIkel’s award will be done in the coming days.</p>
<p dir="ltr">The statement also added that the New African Soccer Awards has been merged with the Africans Abroad<br>
Recognised (AAR) Charter, which seeks to recognise the exploits of Africans in Diaspora in all walks of life.</p>

Enugu Based Ex-eagles Orjinta Dies In Home

<p dir="ltr">Nigeria football fraternity has been thrown into another round of mourning following the news of the mysterious death of former Super Eagles and Enyimba defender Romanus Orjinta .</p>
<p dir="ltr">A close source told Sporting Life on phone from Enugu that the hard tackling defender who was nicknamed igwe aga aga in his playing days to underline his rock solid defensive style was found dead at his home in Enugu on New Year ’ s eve by neighbours who observed that he was unusually absent .</p>
<p dir="ltr">At the time of his death, the late footballer was said to have been alone in his apartment as his children were understood to have gone on holiday for the Yuletide season .</p>
<p dir="ltr">“ It ’ s really a tragic story for Orjinta” the source began in a telephone interview with Sporting Life yesterday .</p>
<p dir="ltr">“ First, it was his wife that died five years ago leaving him depressed and despondent . His children have now been orphaned and only God knows how they will cope without their mother and father, ” he lamented .</p>
<p dir="ltr">The Enugu born defender burst into limelight when he marshalled the central defense with Obinna Nwaneri to help Enyimba win the CAF Champions League in 2003.</p>
<p dir="ltr">He also played for Wikki Tourists of Bauchi, the defunct Julius Berger FC of Lagos and Rangers international of Enugu , his home town club . The defender had a brief stint with Lillestrom of Norway were he played for one season before coming back home to retire at Rangers .</p>
<p dir="ltr">Since hanging his boots a few years ago, he lived a relatively quiet life in Enugu where he coached an academy side before his untimely death. The high point of his international career was in 2004 where he won the bronze medal with the Super Eagles at the Nations Cup finals in Tunisia .</p>

Equatorial Guinea Job - Keshi Losses Out

<p dir="ltr">Speculations linking out-of-contract Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi with the vacant position of head coach of the  Equatorial Guinea national team have been put to rest with plans by that country’s football association to appoint Esteban Becker to replace Andoni Goikoetxea.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Equatorial Guinea have opted not to renew coach Goikoetxea’s contract, which expired on 31 December.The country’s football association (FEGUIFUT) claims Goikoetxea breached his contract by not travelling to Portugal with the team on 16 December.</p>
<p dir="ltr">As a result Goikoetxea was sacked, a decision sanctioned by new FEGUIFUT president Andres Jorge Mbomio. Following the sack of the former handler, the 2013 Afcon-winning Keshi was widely speculated as his possible replacement. With the latest development from that country, Keshi whose place in Nigeria is still shrouded in <br>
uncertainty remains in limbo.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Equatorial Guinea have just over two weeks with the team before they kick off the Nations Cup against Congo on 17 January.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Argentine Becker, 50, was previously in charge of Equatorial Guinea’s women’s team, who he led to the 2012 Nations Cup title.</p>
<p dir="ltr">As well as facing Congo, Becker would lead his new team out against Burkina Faso and Gabon in Group A.<br>
Equatorial Guinea stepped in as last-minute replacements for original hosts Morocco, who failed in their plea to the Confederation of African Football to postpone the tournament because of fears over the potential spread of the deadly Ebola virus.</p>
<p dir="ltr">As a result Equatorial Guinea were handed Morocco’s place at the finals, despite having been eliminatedduring qualifying after they were penalised for fielding an ineligible player.</p>

Turkish Club Boss Rejects 10m Euros Bid For Emenike

<p dir="ltr">Fenerbahce president Aziz Yildirim has revealed the Turkish club rejected a 10 million Euros offer for Nigeria striker Emmanuel Emenike recently.</p>
<p dir="ltr">“Emenike offer came, they gave 10 million Euros. However, I trust him. I therefore rejected the offer,” said the boss of the Turkish champions.</p>

Coach Ugbade — Flying Eagles Will Win African Youth Championship

<p dir="ltr">Flying Eagles assistant coach Nduka Ugbade has predicted that the team will win a seventh AYC title by winning all their matches in Senegal in March.</p>
<p dir="ltr">The Nigeria U20s are pitched in Group A alongside host country Senegal, Congo and Cote d’Ivoire. They begin their campaign on March 8 against Senegal.</p>

<p dir="ltr">Mikel Obi will battle Swansea striker Wilfried Bony, Sadio Mane of Southampton, as well as Alex Song from West Ham for the best African performer in the EPL for the month of December.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Giving details, New African Soccer’s Awards Director and CEO, Tunde Adelakun stated that the choice was a difficult one, given the busy schedule of games in the EPL in December.<br>
      “We had varying and diverse opinions from our followers, and this is understandable,”<br>
he said, “given the many matches that were played in December and the involvement of a high number of Africans.”</p>
<p dir="ltr">“Wilfried Bony has featured in the shortlist on two occasions in the past, as he continued to lead the line for Swansea City.<br>

Eduok Shuns Super Eagles

<p dir="ltr">Dolphins striker Emem Eduok, who is close to joining Tunisian club Esperance, and late replacement Igudia Godwin are the only call- ups yet to join the Super Eagles training camp in Abuja.</p>
